Ah yes, it's what it spits out for hardware which is unconfigured.
I strongly suspect you don't actually have a driver for this modem
loaded (which obviously in turns means you won't be connecting to you
ISP either).

The tar file you found on some site is probably already included in the
package mentioned by Nick. Install that package instead and rerun
hardware detection. Btw did you have that modem detected when you
installed the system? If the installer didn't detect that it needs said
missing package, file it as a bug. Dito when you go into yast to
configure an ADSL modem. Yast should detect that this driver is needed
and prompt you to enter the DVD. If not -> bug report.

There is a cure... it comes in flat, round shiny pills with a hole in
the middle.

Be aware though that many applications for Linux are either completely
non-existant or do not meet professional requirements. For example, the
flag-ship graphics program (gimp) can't even correct a white balance or
change a colour temperature, at least I haven't found it looking through
all the menues. Things like these are easily a k.o. for Linux.
