I could try the "not easy 1-2-3 easy steps" method of manually loading the driver if you could give me a quick run-down of how to go about such a thing.
I have tried reinstalling Suse entirely but still no detection of the modem. Reinstalled eciadsl and managed to find the folder, open it, but I cannot find the documents /usr/share/doc/packages/eciadsl-usermode/BUGS etc.

Subject: Re: Configuring USB ADSL modem in SUSE
I have rebooted since installing the eciadsl driver using Yast and the Suse
DVD, but the modem is still not detected when I try to use Yast to set up
networking with DSL.
Bad sign. yast->network device->DSL starts with a DSL modem hardware detection und should find everything for which there is a driver. I get "other (not detected)" as only entry as I don't have a DSL modem connected. If yours shows the same then I'd say it's one of the hardware detection failed, the HW detection worked but the driver failed to load (possibly because your modem isn't quite the supported type - bad news), yast is buggy and doesn't get its act together for this modem.
Looking at the eciadsl package contents, it seems that modem and driver are a bit of a pain and a half. Read
/usr/share/doc/packages/eciadsl-usermode/BUGS /usr/share/doc/packages/eciadsl-usermode/INSTALL /usr/share/doc/packages/eciadsl-usermode/README
for potential further insights. I'd try loading the driver manually to see where it falls short, but I'm afraid that's not really a quick do-these-3-easy-things sort of thing.
