Good scheme. I'm happy to change the bash talk accordingly, ie general
intro to "scripts". Taking 5 minutes for the basics of bash I/O would
still be a good idea IMO as this is needed for making use of other
scripts.

Agreed  ;)
Those who need/want to know those differences know them already anyway.
Those who don't know are using bash and don't need to.
