I installed Ubuntu 5.04 over Suse.
You'll win the prize for "how many distros can I install per hour" at
this rate... Efficient would have been to boot the ubuntu live cd (and
to copy the X11 setup to floppy/flash had you found a suitable one).
Haha - so I win the prize! (Is it a medal or just a copy of another
distro? Or perhaps a medal *made* from a CD of another distro?)
Efficient would have been to run the live Ubuntu CD certainly - if I had
a live cd. However, I did not have any Ubuntu CDs so I downloaded the
600Mb iso (yes I know there are hundreds of redundant copies of Ubuntu
in Christchurch) - 4hr 50min at 256kbps - as we were going out for
several hours and it was easier than contacting people and organising to
pick up a disk. Having the choice to download a live version or an
install I chose install because if I liked it I could leave it there.
effect on the appearance. My monitor is rated to 85Hz on 1024x768.
Never ever expect satisfactory performance from any CRT monitor at the
edge of its rated specs! [EMAIL PROTECTED] should be ok though, but the only
way to make sure is to try different frequencies and watch the picture
quality degrade (also watch out for serious distortions, and check the
whole screen area, not just the centre!).
I get satisfactory performance from my CRT monitor at the edge of its

In Suse it is the lower right-hand corner that displays the most flicker.
Btw an update for that xdm problem is in the works.
Good to hear.
