Mine are all in the garage, and there's three lengths of UTP going out
there.

True, but my desk is particularly small. And I wanted something quiet.
Eventually I want to turn it into a server, with a couple of hard drives in
a RAID 1. It has to be small and quiet (and cheapish to run) if I want it on
most of the time. The HDD in there at the moment (a 6 GB I had spare. - It
didn't come with a HDD) is far-and-away the noisiest thing in the box.
