Now that was singularly irritating.

For some reason, the shock of the consequences has made me I forget why, I typed in control-alt-backspace.

Zap.

X rebooted.

Everything on my screen, two emacs sessions with many buffers, multi term with about 15 tabs open in various useful places, a mail session, a web browser with many tabs open.

Zap.

Gone.

And this is a feature.

A default feature.

Of X.

Weird.

Ah yes, cntrl-shift-backspace AND alt-backspace under emacs is delete
last word. Somehow my mind munged the two and did cntrl-alt-backspace
to do delete a word _harder_.

You have to add to your "ServerLayout" Section of your
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file ...

Option "DontZap" "true"

very very very very very silly.

Not Happy.

"Things only ever go right so that they may go more spectacularly wrong later."

From this principle, all of life and physics may be deduced.
