I always thought the difference between distros was the packaging/updating mechanism and the bundled system configuration tools (eg SuSE => Yast, Mandrake => drakconf & urpmi) Once installed the programs should work the same, no? The question then becomes - does the tool that Anthony Brown wants to use come packaged for his distro? If not, can a tarball version of the app be safely installed on his distro (what are the dependancies)? That would answer his question.
