I've never had any problem with copy protected CDs and linux. However I haven't bought any CDs for a few years so it's possible this has changed.
As to Mike Pearce's e-mail, grip is indeed a good program. Would be interesting to see how it worked as a copy protected CD I had (The Best of Death Row) when mounted in the CDROM only showed a .swf file (it had some music videos on the disk), yet grip ripped the tracks from it fine. --Slosh
