I'm perfectly happy with ipcop, it's the usb adsl modem I want to replace, just to proce to telstra clear that it's their connectivity that's cr*p, or not. There's no problem with the 'statelessness of a web connection, but these breaks are locking up my outgoing ssh and vpn ( that's NOT supported! ) connections to the States, Europe and Diamond Harbour, all at the same time. Using an usb modem allows me to have 3 separate internal networks which I need - using an ethernet - based router would lose me one of those ethernet ports. I could go to smoothwall ( actually, I'd probably use m0n0wall in preference ), but at the moment, I just want to replace the usb ADSL modem. Given the time, I'd build up an all singing system based on m0n0wall and a soekris 4801 ( http://www.soekris.com/net4801.htm ), with an extra PCI network card, and a minipci wireless card. 'Cos that would be fun as well! Cheers, Steve
