You may need to choose PAP as your login method. If you are using kppp open kppp, click on the configure button.
Click on --> accounts highlight the account you use --> edit --> authentication --> PAP. Click OK and back out. On the first dialog box enter your login and password into the appropriate text box and go. Also check the 'show log window' box to see a blow by blow account of your connection attempt.
