I'm not using kppp but gnome-ppp. Neither do I have the package necessary for installing kppp and there's a whole bunch of dependencies which I'd have to manually check through and install. gnome-ppp unfortunately doesn't seem to have an option for choosing PAP. I did however try uncommenting the +pap line in the /etc/ppp/options file but this didn't seem to do anything.
Setting noauth option doesn't seem to help.
