The only tip I can offer is that on my printer, a HP DeskJet 948c, you have 
to set the print orientation to 'reverse landscape'.  The envelope icon on 
the printer paper tray dictates that the envelope should be fed in face 
down with the bottom edge aligned to the right hand edge of the paper tray 
(i.e. the flap is uppermost, towards the centre of the printer.

I don't really print envelopes, but I wanted to know roughly how to do it.  
That's the only significant point I learned.  The rest is trivial, setting 
the right 'page size' for the envelope, and the correct margins to place 
the address at the right place on the envelope.  For the purposes of 
playing I was using KWord and CUPS printer drivers.

I suppose another useful tip is to use windowed envelopes. =;^)
