... it's /etc/resolv.conf, without the 'e'. This file is used (amongst other 
things) to tell your computer where the dns servers are. As this varies 
depending to which ISP you're connected to, it gets rewritten as a part of the 
login process. Info is delivered from the DHCP server, and the ppp login 
updates this file ( and restores it on logout ).
