I can't help but wonder, seeing as you have not been able to persevere with
a Gentoo installation on your own, whether Gentoo is suitable for you?
However the installation manual has been extensively revised and updated
since the last 'Robert's Garage' event. You might care to study the top
three links on

carefully.

CLUG has speakers booked for both April and May. Would you be able to make
time available at the Sydenham venue for the purpose?

It's our intention to get people started on Gentoo Linux by helping them to
get it installed. Installing Gentoo is not particularly difficult,
assuming that you have a very general basic understanding of computer
functioning and how programs are built. You also have to be able to read
English instructions and carry them out intelligently. It's the fact that
Gentoo is a strictly source code based distribution which makes it so
completely different from installing any other Linux distribution. Thus
some people find the installation of Gentoo to be something of a trial. We
feel that the long term benefits offered by Gentoo far outweigh the
initial baptism of fire. This is our motivation for offering the Gentoo
MiniFests.

However do please note that it is simply not possible for us to provide a
long term continuum of ongoing free support to users who, for whatever
reason, can't read and understand the printed computer documentation to
perform the necessary maintenance tasks.
