Back On-Topic (sorry, I thought Don & I were corresponding off-list)..
Chris is right about using Synaptic to add, search, & utilise s/ware
repositories to insatll from tho (for Ubuntu). It keeps the system fully
sane in its dependancies etc - upsetting LNX in that way is sooo easy to
do.
Search in Synaptic - pppoeconf (an Ubuntu package):
"configures PPPoE/ADSL connections
Userfriendly tool for initial configuration of a DSL (PPPoE) connection."
This was installed by default.
Bernard, you run this from the commandline: $ pppoeconf
(Seems to work without sudo, but I don't have the modem to test. Will
any special USB config be needed before that?)
There's also an older-looking (Ubuntu but no icon flag) pppoe :
"PPP over Ethernet driver
PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) is a protocol used by
many ADSL Internet service providers. This package allows
you to connect to those PPPoE service providers."
This wasn't installed by default.
