You have 2 options:

1) Use gphoto2, or the KDE equivalent, to transfer the files to your 
computer.

2) If the camera has removable flash cards, take card out of camera,
insert into card reader ($25) connected to your computer, use cp or any
other of your favourite methods for copying files.

Looks like a no-brainer choice to me.

I understand the demo beta version of the commercial MainActor is the
only software worth looking at. All the OSS stuff is useless (please by
all means, show me otherwise). There are things like broadcast2000,
$DEITY knows what it does, and it does it on ten zillian tracks, but if
it takes more than 10 minutes of playing around (without reading a
manual) to do something simple like delete 10 seconds at position
1:23min, then it's only good for /dev/null.
