Bernard you should DEFINITELY follow the suggestion to use a FAT32 partition for accessing all your data files from either OS. Look to moving useful data in your windows My Documents folder to the FAT32 partition. In very short time you will be far more productive in linux than currently - but this is a key thing for you to do.
