Well, I'd say that if keeping up with current stuff like BT is a
requirement, the job is more likely to be achieved by Ubuntu as a server
install (i.e. none of the desktop stuff) than with Debian, due to the
feature upgrade cycle.
But, if you're actually trying to operate the machine as a trusted
interface to the Internet, rather than to play with it, then OpenBSD is
the significantly more secure option, although much more difficult to
set up.

If Nate chooses to go down this road, then yes, an install CD and help
is available at Freenix tonight. He'll get an overview of the difference
between Ubuntu and FreeBSD to boot. Installation work will require all
your peripherals - down to power board & cable - to be present.
We'll try and collar Jim next time he's in town for an OpenBSD talk too!
