You can test that with smbclient -L host
good point. you will then be asked for a password, which may give some hint as to what is going wrong :) You need the password of the shared printer you are connecting to. Of course it may not be password protected and it may. EG I have an account on the samba server at the office. If I run smbclient -L over it without the password I get a certain list of shares, excluding my home directory. However if I give my samba password I get a list that includes my home directory.
