Yes a good idea, as the box is near retirement anyway. Who cares about microdrops of oil - the worst they can do is collect more dust, so use the oil sparingly. Don't worry about stuffing the fan with the oil - haha. Alternatively, try silicon grease, which has as its main property that it doesn't wonder over everything. Costs $15 a tube though, but lasts until your kids are retired.
