Last weekend my cable connection started experiencing bad packet loss which seem to be fixed the first couple of times by resetting the cable modem. When I got up on Monday morning my connection was completely down and after another reset of the cable modem I was connected but with about 70% packet loss. Nothing seemed wrong with my home LAN as the packet loss only started once it hit my cable gateway ip. I called Paradise and spoke to a tech who told me he was not getting any packet loss to me so he got me to plug my laptop directly into the cable modem. No packet loss when doing this. Here was me thinking it was the cable modem.

I have a linux box as my firewall so I swapped out the network card and put the replacement into a different pci slot just to be sure. This fixed the problem but I am not sure if it was the network card or the pci slot that went bad or maybe even just a reboot of the box would have fixed it. I will get around to testing that network card some day soon. I have had no more problems since then.

My guess would be that something is borked with your router.

Has anyone else noticed anything odd with their broadband connection, especially since Tuesday 9th?
