This is likely to rouse some flames but here are my feelings on the
Linux distros I've tried so far...

Redhat - Very standard & programs compile easily but costs lots to get
good (read semi-automated) patch management.
SuSE - nice features but bloated - VERY non-standard (I am GLAD AppArmor
is non-standard though - it's fantastic).
Slackware - the first version I tried and I still think it's clunky
Mandrake - started off well but has petered out over the years
I'm currently running Solaris 10 for Intel - Excellent performance but
some Linux rpms don't install well.

Currently the flavours of choice appear to be Ubuntu and Debian; both of
which I have not yet tried.

The functions I employ on this box are Apache, BIND, Squid, Bind and
sendmail (when I get time I'll play with fetchmail).
It's a working box rather than a playmachine.

Any ideas of a good distro and your basis for your comment?

Sorry about the address, yeah, I run a linux server this side, helped by

a static address. It's good learning for IRCds, Linux game servers of
many flavours, MTAs and setting them up, Bind DNS (which I'm reasonably
raw at), and so on...

All boring as hell, but attempting to get this back on topic... so had
to mention the linux server.
