I've just been looking at the QEMU web site... seems there's more than
one version.
Has anyone used it can if so can they recommend the right version FOR XP.

There is no right version of XP. Recomment that they upgrade to ubuntu
immediately.
It's always good to see we're on topic and alowing for the human factor :)
QEMU is going to allow me to get into those school machines and get
ubuntu on them without upseting any IT staff :)
