No we suggested trying the LiveCD just to see if it works OK (then if it looks 
good maybe you could install it).

I really think you should try the LiveCD so you can make an informed decision.

Honourable intentions I agreee but you seem to have a "disconnection" between 
your apparent knowledge and your understanding of the suggestions given to 
get your problems resolved.

I know that sometimes I do not understand replies to my questions but I have 
found that if I admit that and bring the helpful replies down to my level of 
understanding I make progress.

I think Don, that you might be frustrating a few because you have not followed 
their advice and instead come back with another question (without trying 
their tip first).

Why not either:-

-follow the suggestions to fix your problems correctly
-try a LiveCD of a Distro which may not have the problem
or
-stop asking apparently inane questions.
