Hi all. > Come on mate. We shouldn't have to put up with all these long email > rants every day. I disagree. Don's so called "long" email was the result of many hours of invested effort. Some of those spent helping his wife. He has a right to explain his feelings, particularly after being repeatedly maligned in public mailing lists. He has endeavoured to follow advice (which kind of broke things for him) and has an unhappy machine..
Part of the problem is the nature of emails. The communication is very short, very succinct, and it is frequent that the reader will miss the point. A second part of the problem is that list behaviour is, at times, atrocious. Some descend to childish levels and shout. Some get all excited about the difference/superiority of linux/windows. And the sad part - logic, reason, and careful thought disappear. Lets behave like adults, and be nice. What was Grandma's advice? "if you can't say something nice, don't say it" > If you want to learn and get stuff to work, insulting and annoying the > local community is probably not the best way to go about it. Nope. Grow up, and stop behaving like children. Move on, ignore the dumb stuff, and start doing the fun things. Writing cool code, cool applications, posting advice that is helpful, developing nice web pages for home/projects/work whoever, and a host of other things. Full Kudos to Don - he is trying to use Linux to make money to pay wages so people like us (Linux nerds) can get work doing Linux. I will try to read my emails in the next couple of days - but I will be at cluecon - www.cluecon.com If you look at the speaker list, you will see that they dobbed me in for two talks.
