However both of those drivers can be fixed or worked around with ease
from what google tells me. [3] Certainly not worth a distro change.

[1] there have been other well publicised problems with the release too
[2] specifically bcm43xx and zd1211
[3] the specific advice for bcm43xx is to flag it and use ndiswrapper,
for zd1211 is to download and compile a more recent driver version.

Well I have a problem with my wireless dongle on Mepis 6 on a Toshiba laptop
(Celeron 750Mhz, 192 Mb RAM)

We got it working by downloading and compiling a recent zd1211(b) driver but
it seems to only work intermittenly.

I have disabled the onboard NIC and it seems to start every time now and
iwconfig gives expected results.

pinging www.ihug.co.nz seems slow (~100Ms)

Browsing is sometimes fine and other times it just dies, as does my imap mail
on kmail.

I thought Volker might be onto something when he suggested (for another
problem) too many USB devices - it seemed to be OK when I tried it this
morning for a feww minutes.

Now it is back to being intermittent.

Where to from here? (It was working fine on Windows 2000)

Rob
