compiling openoffice takes a long time and a large amount of disk space for 
temp files, and a major RAM upgrade helps the process too.

PCBSD is a user friendly OS based on freebesd, with simplified install and 
binary "PBI" installs available, including one for openoffice. It is pretty 
darned slick.
