Read the Readme in /usr/share/doc/ sl-modem-source
Then
   cd /usr/src/
   tar jxf sl-modem.tar.bz2
   cd /modules/sl-modem/drivers/
   make clean
   make
   make install
   modprobe slamr
for fun:
   dmesg | grep slamr
   slmodemd --countrylist
   slmodemd --NEW_ZEALAND /dev/slamr &
creates the ports
   wvdialconf  /etc/wvdial.conf
edit /etc/wvdial.conf  , including addition of
   Carrier Check = no
Dialout with
   wvdial &
