How to undo the clash of setup methods that results is probably beyond 'your average Ubuntu user', certainly in terms of time input to fix. Though I'm sure you could fathom the tangle quicker than I Douglas.

Quick answer: step away & do a clean install (multiple partitions pre-prepared smooths the backup process).
