the "passive" iand "noipdefault" options are usually required also.

Most isp's use PAP.

Some isp's now require both the username and domain name for login although
I expect that if Alan is using the same login as for Windows dial up he
should be using IHug's required Login ID either username "zl3kr" or
user+domain "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" for Kppp's Login ID.

If Kppp can detect the Lucent Agere modem with its "Query Modem" tool
you can be sure that the problem is with Kppp or /etc/ppp/options
configuration.

For my Lucent modem I use the init ATZ in the Kppp "Modem --> Modem Commands"
window.

Also check that the Device tab has setting "CR" for line termination and
Hardware flow control.
