OK the problem was with me. I uncommented the two respective lines and I assumed wrongly thatthe <n> on the end of the statement automatically set it to the default setting WRONG I changed them both to 12 and call stayed in till it timed out with an error 16 as per normal
I think I have posted this before and I am fairly sure that it means nothing
it said using ppp0 then 12 lines of pppd: @[01][06][08]8u[05][08] then times out Alan
