Both Picasa and Google Earth have linux versions. Picasa is definitely windows-with-wine, according to http://picasa.google.com/linux/learn_more.html So, how does it work? Picasa for Linux runs the current Windows version of Picasa using a carefully tested version of Wine, an open-source implementation of the Windows application-programming interface (API). I think that Google Earth is too, but I could not find a similar note about how they made Google Earth.
