what was wrong with the linux ham programs? ham radio traditionally has good 
support in linux.

wine is a windows "emulator" (actually its not, but you can think of it like 
that for the moment. it is a collection of open source windows compatible 
libraries)

it is available for mepis

I posted a few days ago telling you how to download the packages once you have 
that page. The dependencies should already be installed.
