Wine Emulation

I was checking with the author of one of the Ham programs I use in 
Windows, as to whether or not it is likely to run under Linux.
He said that he believed that there were some running it under "Wine 
Emulation".... is this likely to be a feasable option for me with Mepis 
6, and does anyone know if this is a dowloadable program  that can be 
installed?????
Just checking for when!! I get this thing ticking over on the internet.
