I'm not arguing that proprietary systems aren't cool - they sure are, and of course Asterisk isn't suited to every situation. Use the right tool for the job etc. etc. That said, Asterisk can and is being used around the world to service large businesses and it's functionality stacks up against other systems pretty well.
