Is sound enabled in the bios? Probably is if you can see it with lspci ( i've just checked on my home pc - nVidia2 - which has it disabled in favour of a sound card, and it's not visible ). I have never had any problems using the nVidia binary drivers, but have never used in 64 bit... not that I expect that to be an issue.
As stated elsewhere, the download page suggests that you use the intel8x0 drivers... it also only seems to support SuSE 10.0.
