Actually, PC clocks are wretched timekeepers.  Just because your machine is 
powered on doesn't mean it will keep time better than the battery backed 
clock does when powered off.

I suggest you install ntpdate or its ilk.  If (or when) you are connected 
to the internet it will check and correct your clock against an external 
reference.

If you are never (or rarely) on the internet and your clock is really that 
bad then you can hook up a GPS to your serial port and take time of day 
from it.
