Guilty. Downloaded the tgz from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ last Wednesday. I modified the archive to have the root at /opt instead of /firefox and then repackaged it (to a .deb in my case) using alien -- the man pages claim that alien will also generate rpms. The only wrinkle in the update from 1.5 to 2.0 using synaptic was manually relinking the contents of the plugin directory. Roy.
