In terms of just "being a nice citizen of the internet" it used to be
the case that the US was our nearest international neighbour on the
net - traffic to Oz and Asia was often routed through the US.

I think this changed wrt Oz with a big "pipe" over the Tasman, but is
Asia (e.g. Japan) closer in a network sense that the West Coast of the
US? Anyone know?
