David,
First, I've added a subject line to your email. It's fun to have threads.
Second, the linux list is here to help you. But to get help, you're
supposed to get "stuck" first. So I really recommend that you do some
googling and find out how other people do it. So search for "dual boot
windows and linux". Or, "dual boot windows and ubuntu". Go here to do
the searches:
http://www.google.co.nz/linux
The second search I recommended returns heaps of results. You should
read those articles and THEN email us if there are aspects in the
articles that you don't understand. Another good reason to email the
list is if you see multiple ways of doing something and can't decide
which one is the best way for you.
People love to help out here, but you need to show some willingness for
self-guided study.
By the way, these days the normal process is, install Windows first,
then Ubuntu. Ubuntu should easily take care of the MBR (booting with
lilo or grub). For partitioning, you need to decide how much to give
Windows and how much to give Ubuntu. I normally make the Windows
partition the largest because Linux will be able to see and use that
space, but Windows will not be able to see or use the Linux partition.
Good luck,
Michael.
