My brother-in-law is the windows guru among my in-laws, so I'm off the hook. My brother uses Ubuntu and is supported by the Welly Lug. My mother is an author so it goes without say that she would use a Mac.

Not linux, but free *nix all the same: I replaced Windows ME on a friend's pavilion with PC-BSD. I still need drivers for their HP Photosmart printer though. I learnt a bit more about the options of emerge, but still failing to get Lyx installed. I'll post a "please help" messege after I've had time to document the exact problem and I have time to process all the helpfull replies :-) Yuri
