The proprietary programs on Linux I have had the occassional run in
with either...
  * statically linked.
or
  * Install all libraries in a subdirectory of thier own installation
    directory and use the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to choose select their versions
    of the DLLs.

Maybe the developers are just more clueful.
