Well, yes, but lets get real.
Proprietary drivers are required.
 
with prop drivers, glxgears runs at 9900 fps on my box, which means that 
all the graphic systems, and games run just fine.

I don't know if you have kids or not, but games are important - they have 
to run well. Many of the linux games require hardware acceleration, which 
means require prop.drivers.

Put another way.
 How can anyone argue linux is ready for the desktop, if it cannot do the 
high frame rate required for games?

To get the high frame rate, we need drivers - which does mean proprietary 
(does it not?)

Is Xinerama required?
 Well yes, cause if the driver supports it, there is a better chance all 
your apps will work on your graphics system.
