Core 2 Duo is fantastic for vmware. I recently switched my work machine to Ubuntu and still have to use xp under vmware for quite a lot. I get near native performance from the xp vm. These chips also have something called vm86 which is supposed to be good for virtual machines.
Memory is always crucial for vms, but is much less so on my ubuntu set up vs the xp setup I had. VMware under linux somehow manages to use less memory than is allocated to the vms (I can run two 512Mb vms on my 1Gb machine without problems.) On 27/02/07, Phill Coxon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: snip
What is the best recommendation for processors these days? Does Dual Core or Core 2 Duo have any major performance advantages yet? Motherboard recommendations? I need good USB / firewire support + up to 4G memory.
