Thanks for the reply.  Gives me a couple of things to check when I get
home.  Yes flash is fine on my work 64 bit box in Firefox anyway, it is
my home 32 bit box that still doesn't work.  Yes, the system was messed
up at one point and is still a little suspect - could only be me to
blame - it was an upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 soon after the release of
10.2.  The upgrade appeared to go OK however the repositories and update
sources were majorly mucked up, essentially they all still pointed to
10.1 sources.  It took quite alot of time to figure out correct
settings, and implement good sources for all the multimedia stuff. 

I think from here if the above pointers do not improve the situation,
I'll just wait for a little bit, I intend putting a new motherboard in
that machine in the next few weeks, it will be 64 bit, and I will start
from scratch with that box.  Now that I have figured out flash on this
work box and know the multimedia sources I expect things to go smoothly
and satisfactorily.
