Also, "SCSI support being compiled into the kernel" only means that the kernel is sufficiently capable to load further SCSI-related modules. This typically also includes e.g. basic SCSI CDROM support.
It would be nice to rid myself of the need to have to generate an initrd for every new version of the kernel. There must be a way to statically compile code necessary to mount root from SCSI disks into the kernel, the effect of which being no different than loading the same code as modules from initrd. thanks, rohit.
