I think if you wanted an organiser/phone (smartphone) thats more or less guaranted to synch with ubuntu than a Palm Treo 650/680 would be the way to go. Palm also has newer 7xx devices. Palm's thanks to pilot-link synch pretty much all the time as long as the kernel matches the release of the device. I'm sticking to my Palm Tungsten T2 & Sony Erissson T610. At least with that combo you can protect the more fragile device (the Palm), & be a little more care free with the phone. I'd be scared shitless to drop a $1000 dollar smartphone!
