Thanks for all these replies - plenty of food for thought.
I especially hear that a phone/organiser is a compromise on both sides. Main reasons for wanting to change is that I will be getting a new phone for work and my existing tungsten T is getting old and a bit flakey - the touch screen needs realignment just about every time I use it and sometimes won't respond at all. Sounds like sticking with palm is the way to go to integrate with linux. I might just get an upgrade for that and another bluetooth phone.
