I wouldn't be using ext4 just yet from what I have read on the sabayon
forums.
I used the defaults for partitioning and formatting and did not actually
check what was being created.
Creating new virtual disc now
I thought things were going better this time. The defaults were ext3 but at
about 20% of the file installation progress I got the message
"An error occurred trying to format sda1. This problem is serious, and the
install cannot continue.
Press <Enter> to reboot your system"
I suggest you follow the instructions - press enter and it will reboot
