Hi all,

I'm interested in doing some modelling of transport in Christchurch.

I was wondering if anyone has experience using (and could recommend) a
suitable GIS (or other suitable cartographic software) on Linux. There
is a list of them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GIS_software
Ideally, I would like it to be easily scriptable using python.

Also, does anyone have access to the digital street-map info for Chch?
Or even better the cadastral info for Chch? It doesn't have to be
completely up-to-date. The old digital cadastral database would be
sufficient.

I asked the CCC, they have the road-centreline data but they are a bit
too expensive. This is only a personal-interest project, after all.

Cheers,
Carl.
